Edge Announcement - Jonathan Donville

Congratulations to Jonathan Donville (Edge 2017) on his recent commitment to attend Cornell University in the fall of 2017.  Jonathan has been with the Edge program since he was 11 years old, and has developed into a very solid, versatile midfielder. The 6'1, 175lbs, Oakville, ON native has an incredible outside shot and is an absolute threat in the offensive zone.  Donville was recently recognized in an article written by 3D rising (Casey Vock) as "One of the most underrated recruits in the 2017 class".  Jonathan currently plays for the Burlington Chiefs midget team, St. Michaels College and our Edge 2017 squad.  We would like to wish Jonathan the best of luck at Cornell and have no doubt that he will be a key asset to their program in years to come.

We had a chance to catch up with Jonathan:

Where did you first begin playing lacrosse?
I started playing lacrosse in Oakville when I was 4 years old. I am currently playing for the Burlington Chiefs midget team, as well as St. Michaels College School, and Edge lacrosse 2017

Why did you choose Cornell?
I chose to attend Cornell because I felt like it was a good fit for me academically as well as from a lacrosse perspective and it has always been a dream of mine to play for the Big Red someday.

What are you looking forward to most at Cornell?
I am looking forward to becoming a better player and also a better person at Cornell.

Future ambitions and goals beyond NCAA lax?
My future ambitions are to pursue a masters degree and someday become a journalist

When did you join Edge? Can you tell us about your experience in the program?
My experience with edge was amazing. They provided me with all the tools I needed, form high quality competition, to film resources and also talking to coaches for me. I have been with Edge since I was 11 and I heard about it because my brother was already playing in the association.

Any future advice for Edge members?
My advice for future Edge players would be to play as much lacrosse as you can and enjoy the process with your friends. Although you still have goals, you need to be doing it for the love of the game

Favorite memory with Edge?
My best memory with Edge would be this past summer as a whole with the 2017 team. It was a great and talented group of guys and it was an honour for me to get to say that I was a part of that team.

Who did you look up to growing up?
I would describe myself as a two way middie with good vision. Somebody I really looked up to growing up was Dan Dawson and somebody I would compare my game to now would be Jordan Hall.

Any shoutouts, special thanks?
I want to thank my parents for always being there for me and especially my dad for coaching our Edge team and driving me all over the us to play at different places. I also want to thanks all the Edge coaches and Coach Frescura at St. Mikes for helping to develop my game. Finally I want to thank my teammates for all the memories and for letting me be a part of such a great group of guys.
