Edge Announcement - Josh Bryers

Congratulations to Josh Bryers (Edge 2015/16) who has recently committed to attend Mars Hill University in the fall of 2015.  The 5'10, 150lbs, Stoney Creek, ON native joined the Edge Lacrosse program 4 years ago and has developed into a very solid two-way middie.  Josh is a very gritty midfielder who can get the tough ground balls and get inside team defences to make himself available to score. Bryers first began playing lacrosse at the age of 6 in the Hamilton Minor Lacrosse Association. Josh is now currently playing for the Hamilton Jr.B team along with our Edge 2015 squad. We would like to wish Josh the best of luck at Mars Hill and have no doubt that he will have great success both in the classroom and on the field!

We had a chance to catch up with Josh

Where did you first begin playing lacrosse? Where are you currently enrolled/playing?
I first began playing lacrosse with Hamilton Minor Lacrosse when I was 6. I am currently playing for Hamilton Jr. B and just finished playing with Edge 2015 and U-19 Hamilton Field this past fall.

Why did you choose Mars Hill?
I chose to attend Mars Hill because it was a really good fit for me, they offered the programs I am interested in taking, the campus is great it isn't too big which is what I was looking for, and the coaching staff is great. As well the lacrosse team is a great group of guys and I seemed to jell with them really well.

What are you looking forward to most at Mars Hill?
I'm really looking forward to playing for Coach Klarmann and getting to experience everything the college life has to offer.

Future ambitions and goals beyond NCAA lax?
My future ambitions are to either go into business or sports management.

When did you join Edge? Can you tell us about your experience in the program?
I joined Edge in 2010, Edge has really helped improved my overall game and its been a great experience. Everyone involved in the Edge program is there to help you accomplish your goals.

Any future advice for Edge members?
The best advice I can give to future Edge players is keep all your options open. Also always concentrate in school and do well because Student comes first being a Student-Athlete. Continue to improve your game.

Favorite memory with Edge?
My favorite memories playing for Edge were playing in the NSCLA Championship in Virgina and the Gait Cup because as a team we got to experience what is it like staying in dorms and doing everything together as a team. Both are great tournaments to play in.

Describe the type of lacrosse player you are, who did you look up to growing up? Who would you compare yourself to now?
I'd describe myself as a a two way middie. I like to dodge and dish to the open player, I also can play good defense. I looked up to John Grant Jr, Paul Rabil and Billy Bitter when growing up.

Any shoutouts, special thanks?
I'd like to thank everyone who has helped me through this process especially my parents for all the long car rides to tournaments and practices and for always being my biggest support. I'd also like to thank all my Edge, Jr B, U19, U16, all my Minor Coaches, all my teammates I've played with over the years, and the Edge coordinator Alan Tsang for everything he does for Edge and has done for me.
