Edge Announcement - Austin Bouchard

Congratulations to Austin Bouchard (Edge 2015) on his recent commitment to attend Mars Hill University. The 6', 180lbs midfielder from Sudbury, ON was with the Edge program for 2 years. Bouchard is one of those midfielders who can play tough defence, take draws and score goals, he is an overall complete middie. Along with excellence on the field, Austin is an elite honours student with a 90% academic average (4.0 GPA), he is a complete 'student athlete'. Austin first began playing lacrosse at the age of 4 with the Sudbury Minor Lacrosse Association.  Bouchard is now currently playing with the Sudbury Rockhounds intermediate team. We would like to Austin the best of luck at Mars Hill and have no doubt that he will continue his success at the next level.

We had a chance to catch up with Austin

Where did you first begin playing lacrosse? Where are you currently enrolled/playing?

I began playing box lacrosse at age 4, in Sudbury, ON. I am still playing for the Sudbury Rockhounds Intermediate team.

Why did you choose Mars Hill?

I was very impressed with the campus and the team atmosphere at the university. Also since I hope to play in my first year of NCAA, I believe that Mars Hill will give me that opportunity.

What are you looking forward to most at Mars Hill?

I am getting excited to begin my university experience in the classroom.  As well, I am eager to begin training with the Lacrosse team and hope to have a great time on the fields of North Carolina.

Future ambitions and goals beyond NCAA lax?

I am interested in pursuing a career in business and entrepreneurship.

When did you join Edge? Can you tell us about your experience in the program?

In the fall of 2012, I decided to tryout for the Edge Elite Program. Once I made the 2015 team, I traveled from Sudbury to all the practices and gave it my all when I was at tournaments, which earned me the attention of some coaches.

Any future advice for Edge members?

Keep up your grades in the classroom. It is what coaches really focus on, once they've determined that you have talent.

Any shoutouts, special thanks?

I want to thank all the coaches that have supported me throughout both my box and field lacrosse experiences. My parents were also very supportive with all the travelling from Sudbury.
