Lexie Kinmond commits to Colgate University

Congratulations to Lexie Kinmond (Edge Women's) on her recent commitment to attend Colgate University!  Lexie Joined the Edge program a year ago and has excelled at the attack position.  Lexie has the ability to score big goals while also setting up goals for her teammates, she is a complete offensive threat.  The Peterborough, Ontario native began her lacrosse career with the Kawartha Lakes Lacrosse Association and is now currently playing box lacrosse for the Peterborough Lakers along with Team Ontario field and box.  We would like to wish Lexie the best of luck at Colgate and have no doubt that she will be instrumental both in the classroom and on the field for the Red Raiders!

We had a chance to catch up with Lexie

Where did you first begin playing lacrosse? Where are you currently enrolled/playing? Feel free to mention any previous lacrosse teams/clubs

I first began playing lacrosse for Kawartha Lacrosse, my club team from Peterborough. I am currently playing for Kawartha as well. I play box lacrosse for the Peterborough Lakers as well. I played Team Ontario Field and Box Lacrosse from 2010-2012. I also played Edge lacrosse in 2013/2014.

Why did you choose to attend Colgate?

I chose to attend Colgate University because they have an excellent lacrosse program. The coaches (Heather Young & Katie Rhodes) are great and I knew it was the perfect fit as soon as I visited. Their academic program is also outstanding. I will participate in a high level of lacrosse, as well as receive a great education in post-secondary.

What are you looking forward to most at Colgate??

I am looking forward to paticipating in a Division 1 NCAA lacrosse program. Their team is very determined and successful in the Patriot League, and I can't wait to be a part of it. I am looking forward to spending my four years in university at Colgate University.

What are your future ambitions beyond NCAA lax?

I am not compeltely certain about what my occupation will be after post-secondary, but I want to go into something business related.

Can you provide some insight into your experience with EDGE, when did you join the program? How did you hear about the program?

I joined the EDGE program this past year, after hearing about it from former teammates. I really enjoyed the program and the helpful advice the coaches give to you. Barb and Jess were great, and really gave me a lot of help during the recruiting process. They were very informative, and provided us with a lot of lacrosse and recruiting advice.

What advice do you have for any future EDGE players about the recruitment process?

For future EDGE players, I would 100% recommend joining EDGE. I never realized how much work the recruiting process took, and I can honestly say if it wasn't for joining this team I probably would not have committed. Without the help of Barb and Jess, I would not be where I am today. The EDGE program is extremely helpful with the recruiting process.

Best/Favourite memory playing with EDGE?

My favourite memory playing with EDGE was the tournament in Florida. It was a lot of fun playing at the World Wide Sports Field in Disneyland, and we won our first and only game of the season there!

Describe the type of lacrosse player you are, who did you look up to growing up? Who would you compare yourself to now?

I am an aggressive offensive attacker who likes to score goals, and set people up to score. I don't really know who I would compare myself to now, but I grew up looking up to John Grant Jr., and Shawn Evans. They are two strong offensive guys that know how to put the ball in the net, and they are from Peterborough.

Feel free to include any shout-outs, special thanks.

I would like to thank ALL of my coaches and supporters so much for helping me achieve my goal! Thank you Fred Blowes, Tori Wasson, and Ashley Curtis my club team coaches for coaching me from the time I was 12. They have taught me almost all the skills I know and shape me into the player I am today. I would also like to thank my box lacrosse coaches, Mark Crough, Jim Milligan, John D'Altoe, and Derrick Crough for also helping me enhance my stick skills. Most recently, thank you Barb Boyes and Jess Lee for helping me through the recruiting process and giving me to exposure to Colgate. And the biggest thanks to my parents for always supporting me and my dreams. I am very excited to be attending Colgate University in the fall of 2015. Thank you EDGE for assisting me and making my dreams come true!
