Congratulations to Jake Dunlop (Mississauga, ON) on his recent commitment to attend Young Harris College in September 2014!

Jake Dunlop recently joined the Edge program in September 2013, Jake developed and excelled on the Edge 2015 team and contributed to the team's success in the fall and this past summer. Despite his short tenure in the program, Jake was able to secure himself a commitment to Young Harris College for 2014! We look forward to following his career in the NCAA!

Jake was recently featured in the Mississauga News - Article Here

Where did you first begin playing lacrosse? Where are you currently enrolled/playing?

JD- I began playing lacrosse in grade 9 for Our Lady of Mount Carmel Secondary School and made the Edge Elite team in 2013.  I am currently playing for Edge 2015.  I also play box lacrosse for the Mississauga Tomahawks.

Why did you choose to attend YHC?

JD - I chose to attend Young Harris College because they offer the program that I wanted and when talking to staff it seemed like the best fit for me. The small school and small class sizes at a D2 school was also a big plus.  When I took my visit I liked all the facilities and the coaching staff was very welcoming.  They have a plan in place to be successful and are bringing in recruits that I feel will help them be successful.  I am also looking forward to the warmer winter weather and it is a place where you can play lacrosse all year round.

What are you looking forward to most at YHC??

I am looking forward to getting an education and playing lacrosse at the same time.  I am hoping to get a different experience by being away from home.  I look forward to meeting new friends and teammates.

What are your future ambitions beyond NCAA lax?

I hope to get an education and to get my degree in business.  My plan is to begin a career in business coming out of college and maybe even play in the NLL or MLL too.

Can you provide some insight into your experience with EDGE, when did you join the program? How did you hear about the program?

I joined EDGE in 2013 and I have had a good experience travelling to elite tournaments and talking to college coaches.  I have learned a lot from this program and without it I probably would not be where I am today.  I heard about it through friends and teammates.

What advice do you have for any future EDGE players about therecruitment process?

Doing well in school is just as important as your performance on the field. The better you do in high school will get you more choices of colleges. Make every shift count because you never know which coaches are watching.

Best/Favourite memory playing with EDGE?

Playing in the elite tournaments and getting to meet new people.  The All Canada Games was an exciting time in my recruiting process and it was the first time I met with my future college coach. The EDGE helped me gain the confidence that I could play with elite players.

Describe the type of lacrosse player you are, who did you look up to growing up? Who would you compare yourself to now?

I would say I am a pass first shoot second type of player who can finish inside.  I like to use my speed and quickness to my advantage.  I looked up to current Edge Coaches like Jordan Macintosh and Mark Matthews.

Any shout-outs, special thanks?

I would like to thank my parents Bill and Sharon and my brother Hunter.  I'd also like to thank Alan for mentoring and helping me throughout the recruiting process and Stuart and the EDGE staff for connecting me with coaches.
