Congrats to Edge 2015, Zach Lysyk on his commitment to attend St.Leo's University this September!

Zach has been a member of the Edge program for two seasons where he has become one of the team's top attackmen for our 2014 and 2015 teams.

Zach began playing lacrosse for the Whitby minor lacrosse association, before finishing his minor career in Oshawa. Zach was also a member of the Paul Dwyer Saints that recently won back to back OFSAA gold medals.

Zach is best described as a tenacious, strong and dynamic attackman. Zach posses great hands and is an excellent finisher around the cage. He will have an excellent opportunity to step in and earn playing time this year and we wish him the best of luck this season!

Zach's recent highlight film from fall

We will enjoy following Zach's NCAA career, as he and Edge teammate, Jake Gilmour attend St.Leo's as roomates this September!

Where did you first begin playing lacrosse?

ZL - I first began playing lacrosse with the Whitby Minor Lacrosse Association and later on switched to the Oshawa Blue Knights where i closed my minor career. For the past two seasons i have been playing for the Whitby Junior C Warriors organization and have a had a great experience!

Why did you choose St.Leos?

ZL - I chose to attend Saint Leo for multiple reasons. The first, and most important being the business program they offered because success in the classroom is just as important as succeeding out on the field. Another reason why I chose to attend Saint Leo was the location and campus, the minute i stepped foot on campus I was blown away with the dorms, classrooms and athletic facilities. I have the privilege of being roommates with my fellow EDGE attack partner Jake Gilmour, and we both agreed playing competitive lacrosse in Florida would definetly be something we could get used to!

What are you looking forward to most at St.Leos?

ZL - What I am looking forward to most about Saint Leo is meeting my new teammates and classmates for the next few years and catching a few rays while enjoying my College experience.

Future ambitions and goals beyond NCAA lax?

ZL - My future ambitions beyond NCAA lax is to receive my degree in business and marketing to attain a great job and to stay around the game for as long as I can!

When did you join Edge? Can you tell us about your experience in the program?

ZL - I first joined the EDGE program two years ago while i was entering into grade 11. I heard nothing but positive remarks about the program from teammates on my high school team so the next year i decided to try out.

Any future advice for Edge members?

ZL - My advice to any future EDGE players about the recruitment process is to definitely take the first step and not wait for coaches to contact you, take the initiative to do some research on the school and the program and let them know you are interested asap by sending them emails, calling and providing film.

Favorite memory with Edge?

ZL - My best memory playing with the EDGE program would have to be the NSCLA cup this past summer where we just fell short to the crabs in the finals, that was my favorite tournament and had a great group of guys to go out with

Who did you look up to growing up?

ZL - As a kid growing up I would always follow the Toronto Rock and the player I looked up to most was Colin Doyle. After learning a lot over the past few years and watching lots of NCAA lacrosse I try and mold my play like Cornell graduate Rob Pannell.

Any shoutouts, special thanks?

ZL - I would like to give a shout out to my Entire family especially my Mom Natalie and father Antony who have done everything for me and would not be in this place today! I would also like to thank Mike Drake and the Paul Dwyer Lax boys for making my high school lacrosse career that much better which includes our back to back OFSAA golds! Lastly, id like to give a huge shout to Marc Burton and Alan Tsang for all the help they have provided over the past few years, i really appreciate it!
