Edge Announcement - Brent Noseworthy

Congratulations to Brent Noseworthy (Edge 2015) on his recent commitment to attend the University of Michigan.  Noseworthy has been with the Edge program for 2 seasons and can truly do it all; face-offs, dodging, shooting, passing, defence... you name it.  The 6'4, 195lbs midfielder from Burlington, Ontario has been dominate at the face-off 'X' and brings a strong poise to our offence. Noseworthy is great when he has the ball in his stick, however, he is even better when he doesn't.  Brent has tremendous lacrosse IQ and has the ability to set great picks and make himself available for a pass in tight.

Brent grew up playing his minor lacrosse for the Burlington Chiefs and is oddly enough, a goalie when it comes to box lacrosse.  Brent is currently attending Avon Old Farms as he prepares to make the next step.  We would like to wish Brent the best of luck at Michigan.  We are excited to follow him for the next four years and see his continued success.

We had a chance to catch up with Brent

Where did you first begin playing lacrosse?

I first began playing box lacrosse at the age of four and began playing field lacrosse at the age of eight. I grew up playing minor lacrosse for the Burlington Chiefs both box and field.

Why did you choose Michigan?

I chose Michigan for the great combination of academics and athletics the university has to offer. I have always dreamed of attending the University Of Michigan growing up and when the opportunity was presented, I was thrilled to visit Ann Arbor and make it official.

What are you looking forward to most at Michigan?

I am looking forward to being one of the first teams to compete at the Division One level for Michigan. I am looking forward to building a strong legacy for Michigan Lacrosse and to play for Coach Paul. In addition, I am looking forward to competing to win a Big 10 Championship and working towards an NCAA Championship.

Future ambitions and goals beyond NCAA lax?

Beyond lacrosse, I would like to become a successful businessman by using the skills developed and learned through The University of Michigan’s many academic options available. I would also like to spread the game of lacrosse around the world. Particularly in nations filled with poverty, by teaching the sport to under privileged children.

When did you join Edge? Can you tell us about your experience in the program?

I first joined the Edge Lacrosse program in the summer of my freshman year. Since then, I have had nothing but positive things to say about the program. Edge Lacrosse gives Canadian athletes exposure to American Colleges and works individually with each athlete to help them reach their goals from both an academic and athletic perspective. Edge Lacrosse has provided me with exceptional help and guidance through a very challenging recruitment process and I could not have done it without this program and the great people associated with it.

Any future advice for Edge members (Maybe your experience)?

In the fall of my junior year, I had committed to Cornell University and was excited to attend and play for Coach DeLuca. After a new head coach was assigned to the team, I was unexpectedly decommitted nine months later. I was very optimistic and determined to make the best out of this situation and viewed it as a blessing in disguise. I had always dreamed of playing lacrosse at the University Of Michigan but the opportunity had never previously presented itself. In my situation, one door closed and a new one opened. For any Edge Member, my advice would be to work hard in the classroom, on and off the lacrosse field and to dream big. Everything happens for a reason and if you prepare properly, you will be successful, no matter the roadblocks you may face.

Favorite memory with Edge?

My favorite memory as a lacrosse player would have to be the Gait Cup Tournament. It’s a great team bonding experience, as well as a highly competitive tournament. Another great memory I have had while representing the Edge Lacrosse program was meeting new teammates and gaining friendships that I am positive will last a lifetime.

Who did you look up to growing up?

Growing up, I admired Paul Rabil. He is a fast, strong midfield who can put the ball in the net. Now, I like to watch Jesse King, a big-bodied Canadian midfielder playing at Ohio State.

Any shoutouts, special thanks?

First and foremost a huge thank you to my parents who have endlessly supported me through this journey. Special thanks to Stu Brown and Coach Flanagan at Avon Old Farms School. Also, thanks to all my friends, family, coaches and teammates for the support through this journey.
