With some alumni coming home for US Thanksgiving, we had a chance to catch up with 3 alum who recently started at their respective NCAA programs!

Read about some of their experiences so far and how the year is going!

Connor Kearnan - St. Joseph's University

How are you enjoying life away from home?  How is the school campus/residence?
It's certainly different being on my own now but I love it here at SJU, my team is more of a family then a team which is awesome. My residence is pretty cool, I'm in a suite style res with 3 of my teammates, my roommate is from Garden City, New York.

Have you started lacrosse practice/weight training? How has that been so far? When is your first fall ball game?
We started lacrosse practices 2 days after arriving on campus, we go through sessions, right now our session is 4 workouts a week, 3 conditioning's a week, 2 speed sessions a week, and 2 skill sessions a week. But the session prior that we had 6 practices a weeks, 3 lifts, and 2 conditioning's a week. It's very exhausting but it'll all be worth it in the spring. We only had one fall scrimmage and that was against Villanova where we won 17-8.

What is your course schedule like this semester?  How are you managing the balance between school, athletics and your social life?
I love my course schedule, it's very easy to work with and now have routine so that I have a perfect balance of lacrosse, social life, and academics.

What are your academic/athletic goals this year?
My academic goal is to get a 3.5 GPA, after mid-term's I currently have a 3.48.

What are you enjoying the most so far about the experience?
I love being taught by our amazing coaches. They're very hard but they know their stuff, and I look forward to improving my game under their watch and hopefully getting the field time I want!

How are you enjoying life away from home? How is the school campus/residence?
The school campus is small and everyone is very friendly. It makes it easier to be away from home when I'm always with other lacrosse players or new friends I have met. The campus is under construction now but once the improvements they are making will be fantastic when completed.

How did your fall ball go? Did you guys play/practice/weight training?
Our fall ball was great. We spent a lot of time on the field and weight room and played in the Wounded Warrior at Siena. It was nice to ease into college lacrosse while getting a taste for the intensity of it.

What is your course schedule like this semester? How are you managing the balance between school, athletics and your social life?
I have a full course schedule this semester with classes every day of the week. I find that lacrosse, lifting, and study hall are all fitting into my schedule perfectly due to my great advisors and understanding professors.

What are your academic/athletic goals this year?
My goals for this year are to have a starting spot on the field as well as a GPA of over 3.5.

What are you enjoying the most so far about the experience?
The thing I am enjoying most is all the perks that come with being a college athlete. I like having a full schedule and I like how other students know who the lacrosse players are.

Thank you to everyone in the Edge lacrosse program who have helped me get to where I am today.

How are you enjoying life away from home? How is the school campus/residence?
I am really enjoying my time away from home.  Although it is different it is a nice change.  It is definitely not as easy as I thought it would be. You have to manage your time and yourself while trying to balance lacrosse school and a social life all at once.  I like the campus a lot. There is a difference in weather and it is a nice change considering that it is usually warmer here. I’m in the Smokey Mountains and it is beautiful all the time.  Overall I love it here.

Have you started lacrosse practice/weight training? How has
that been so far?

The lacrosse practicing and weight training is nothing like high school. You can practice and lift up to 4 hours daily during Fall Ball, and our coaches use that to the fullest.   It is hard, but you get used to the work as it goes on. We had 3 fall ball games this fall against Furman, Rhodes, and Sewanee.  We are continuing to improve individually and as a team.

What is your course schedule like this semester? How are you managing the balance between school, athletics and your social life?
My courses are pretty easy so far since I'm doing mostly core courses, but the work load is a lot.  The management between school athletics and social life is hard.  It makes it easier that my roommates are on the lacrosse team and that they have become my best friends here. Being together makes it easier for us to balance all of these things when we are all going through the same thing.

What are your academic/athletic goals this year?
My academic goal is to get a 3.5 GPA and get playing time as a freshman.

What are you enjoying the most so far about the experience?
I am enjoying being away from home and having  more freedom. Playing lacrosse every day is also really fun and you can get a lot better fast.
