Edge Announcement - Ty Conn

Congratulations to Ty Conn (Edge 2015) on his recent commitment to attend Detroit Mercy University! Conn, has been with the Edge program for 3 years now, is an LSM who plays all over the field.  Conn, has the ability to take draws, force turnovers, get tough ground balls and even dodge and score on offence... all while using his long pole. The 6'2, 160lbs, Parry Sound, ON native grew up playing his minor lacrosse in Huntsville.  Ty is currently playing for the Huntsville Hawks Junior C team along with our Edge 2015 squad.  We would like to wish Ty the best of luck at Detroit Mercy and have no doubt that he will be key component to their team over the next four years.

We had a chance to catch up with Ty

Where did you first begin playing lacrosse? Where are you currently enrolled/playing?
Huntsville, Ontario.  I am currently playing for Edge along with the Huntsville Junior C hawks.

Why did you choose to attend  Detroit Mercy?
I chose to attend Detroit Mercy because it was my goal to play NCAA division 1 ever since I started playing for EDGE. I like that is relatively close to home so I will get more chances to visit my family. I also like the fact that it is a smaller school and I really liked the atmosphere when I visited the campus.

What are you looking forward to most at Detroit Mercy?
I am looking forward to playing the sport I love while furthering my education

What are your future ambitions beyond NCAA lax
My future ambitions are to get my degree and become a school teacher .

Can you provide some insight into your experience with EDGE, when did you join the program? How did you hear about the program?
I joined the program 3 years ago and heard about the team from a friend of mine.

What advice do you have for any future EDGE players about the recruitment process?
Get on top of it early and talk to as many schools as you can. Never rule a school out with hard work and determination you can achieve your goal.

Best/Favourite memory playing with EDGE?
2014 NSCLA tournament in Virginia

Describe the type of lacrosse player you are, who did you look up to growing up?
I am a hard worker on the field and the position I play is LSM. I looked up to Brody Merrill. I would compare myself to Joe White

Feel free to include any shout-outs, special thanks. I would like to that my coaches throughout the years for giving me the knowledge of the game and pushing me to do my best. My parents and grandparents for spending many a night and weekends  driving me all over North America to play the game I love and supporting me throughout this journey and the 2014 Junior C Hawks for a memorable season. I would also like to thank the EDGE program and all the coaches over the last few years for all their support in helping me develop my skills and for helping me achieve my goal.
