Congratulations to Edge 2017 - Kyle Hebert on his verbal commitment to attend Stony Brook University in 2017!

Kyle is currently a student at St.Michael's College School where he will be suiting up for the Varsity lacrosse team this Spring. Kyle has been with the EDGE program since 2013 and is one of the top goaltenders in Ontario. Kyle has enjoyed some great lacrosse accomplishments the last 12 months, helping the EDGE 2017 team win to 2017 NSCLA Championship and 2017 Philly Invitational last summer. Kyle concluded the summer as a member of Team Ontario U16 where he helped the team capture a Canadian National Field Lacrosse Championship, the first time in 3 years Team Ontario has won gold! Off the field, Kyle is an excellent student, recently transferring to St.Mikes, where he is an honour roll student.

Kyle was recently featured in the 'Under the Radar' series on the 3drising website with Casey Vock.

We had a chance to catch up with Kyle and speak with him about his experience with Edge and his future at Stony Brook:

Where did you first begin playing lacrosse? Where are you currently enrolled/playing?
I first started playing lacrosse at the age of 4 in Burlington, Ontario. Since then I have played for the Burlington chiefs every year since I was about 7. I am currently playing for both Edge and St. Mikes varsity lacrosse team.

Why did you Choose Stony Brook?
The reasons I chose Stony Brook are simple. Stony Brook offered everything I needed to see in a university, and more. The biggest reasons why I chose Stony Brook University were because I felt like I could succeed there both as a student and as an athlete. I felt like this firstly because they have a centre (Goldstein Centre)for all the athletes, that assists them with there academics in every way possible, and secondly any athlete would fall in love with the school as they offer amazing workout facilities, stadiums, and extremely strong lacrosse coaching, and obviously a lacrosse team that I can see myself playing for.

What are you looking forward to most at Stony Brook?
Other than playing lacrosse, what I am looking forward to most at Stony Brook University is probably the assistance from the academic centre. I feel like this will benefit very much as a student and allow me to succeed.

Future ambitions and goals beyond NCAA lax?
The next goal I have set for myself beyond NCAA lacrosse, is to hopefully play for team Canada in worlds one day, and also if possible play in the MLL.

When did you join Edge? Can you tell us about your experience in the program?
I joined Edge during the 2013 summer season, and ever since it has been nothing but good times starting with a great team atmosphere, great coaching, great competition, and the greatest group of guys anyone could ask to play with.

Any future advice for Edge members?
If I had to offer just one piece of advice to current Edge members going through the recruitment process, it would be to just stay patient and keep working hard. If you keep working your hardest and playing your best, there is not a chance that you won’t be noticed, but without handwork you won’t be going anywhere.

Favorite memory with Edge? My favourite Edge memory was winning the NSCLA championship last summer, it was one of the greatest moments of my life.

Who did you look up to growing up? Growing up my role model was Brett Queener, this is mainly because he’s a strong goalie and I found that I play a lot like him.

Any shoutouts, special thanks? I would like to give a huge shoutout to my Edge coach, Jason Donville and Adam Lukanchoff, my Burlington lacrosse coach, Jay Lanchbury, my school lacrosse coach, Alex Frescura, and Edge program coordinator Alan Tsang and Owner, Stu Brown. Last but definitely not least my amazing parents. I would like to thank all of these people for always being there to support me and for helping me to achieve my goals.
