Congratulations to Melissa Garland on her verbal commitment to La Salle University (Philadelphia PA). Melissa, a product of the Oshawa Lady Blue Knights completed her first fall season with Edge in 2014 participating at the Mid Atlantic and President's Cup tournaments. Melissa took advantage of the opportunity and exposure at these events with her strong play to earn herself recognition and a commitment to La Salle University. Oshawa Lady Blue Knights/Edge Coach, Barb Boyes had this to say about Melissa's play: 'Melissa plays hard every time she steps on the field. Using her speed and determination she wins her share of ground ball battles. The energy she plays with is contagious and will be an asset on the La Salle roster.'

Edge Lacrosse would like to wish Melissa all the best at La Salle!

Where did you first begin playing lacrosse? Where are you currently enrolled/playing?
I first started playing lacrosse when I was 11 years old for Oshawa Lady Blue Knights house league. I was then selected to play on the U15 Rep team.  Since then, I have played on the U15 Elite, U19 Competitive 1 and Edge U19.  Also, my high school Varsity lacrosse team.

Why did you choose La Salle University?
Choosing La Salle felt like the right fit for me.  I loved the coach, the players and the campus.  The school offers a great academic program which I am looking forward to participating in .

What are you looking forward to most at La Salle?
I am looking forward to being a part of the La Salle Explorers family.  I am excited to excel in my athletics and academics and look forward to playing with the team.

Future ambitions and goals beyond NCAA lax?
Beyond university I hope to continue playing lacrosse or being involved in the lacrosse community wherever I end up being. I hope I graduate with my goals set and my head held high. I hope to pass on my passion for the game.

When did you join Edge? Can you tell us about your experience in the program?
My first year of Edge lacrosse was this past fall, 2014. I was so pleased with the experiences I had playing with Edge lacrosse. I learned a lot and I got to showcase my abilities on multiple occasions. It was awesome being able to travel, meet and play with so many other athletes.

Any future advice for Edge members (Maybe your experience)?
My advise for future Edge members is never stop believing in yourself. Confidence is key, don't be over confident but be comfortable and know how you can contribute. Edge was so helpful for my development as a player and opened my door of opportunity.

Favorite memory with Edge?
My favorite memory with Edge was playing in the President's Cup tournament in Orlando. One of the coolest experiences ever, being at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. So many fields and so much lacrosse it was overwhelmingly awesome!!!

Who did you look up to growing up?
Growing up, I looked up to my neighbour Erin Abbott, who is currently doing incredible in her 3rd year at Lindenwood. She has always been a positive role model encouraging me to work hard and never give up.

Any shoutouts, special thanks?
I would like to thank my Blue Knight coaches this past season Rob Dyment and Kay Morissette for being two of the most amazing coaches any athlete could ask for. I would like to also say thank you to Barb Boyes and Jess Lee for helping me through the recruiting process. I am so thankful for the help from you all
