Congratulations to EDGE 2016 Goalie, Cody Haas on his verbal commitment to Canisius College! Cody, a product of Sarnia and London minor lacrosse programs has been a member of EDGE lacrosse since 7th grade! Cody has taken great strides in his development as a student athlete and will be a great fit at Canisius College under Coach Randy Mearns. Cody, a 4 time All Academic team member intends to earn his business degree while at Canisius and hopes to enter the workforce after graduating. Cody and his family truly understood the time, dedication and balance required to be an elite student athlete. Cody and his family were often the furthest traveled, driving 4 hours for team practices and camps during the fall and spring season. On field, Cody is top goaltender who will no doubt make an impact at the next level. Cody's greatest strengths in net are, being a vocal keeper who can help direct and command his defense. Cody tracks balls well and is often in good position and angle to limit opportunities. Cody is a great outlet passer, hitting midfielders up field or dumping off to his help, Cody is also a mobile goalie and can clear the ball if field if necessary.

We wish Cody the best of luck at Canisius! We will enjoy following his career in the NCAA. Cody was also recently named to Team Ontario U18 team that will be competing in 2015 Field Nationals at the end of August in Nova Scotia. Best of luck Cody! We had a chance to speak with Cody about his time and experience with Edge.

Where did you first begin playing lacrosse? Where are you currently enrolled/playing?

CH - I first started playing lacrosse when I was 7 years old. I started off as a box goalie for the Sarnia Pacers. I am currently playing for the Edge 2016 team and the London Mustangs U19 team.

Why did you choose Canisius.

CH - As soon as I toured Canisius I knew it was the perfect fit for me. Coach Mearns and the rest of the staff made me feel welcome from the minute I arrived. Canisius offers everything I am looking for in a school, it has a great a business program, a smaller school with small class sizes which I was looking for and a great lacrosse program. I just knew it was the place I wanted to be.

What are you looking forward to most at Canisius?

CH - I look forward to working towards getting my degree in business and also playing for Coach Mearns and winning a MAAC championship and hopefully a national championship!

Future ambitions and goals beyond NCAA lax?

CH - Getting my degree in business and getting a job out of college.  I also hope to coach after college because I always want to stay involved with the sport I love.

When did you join Edge? Can you tell us about your experience in the program?

CH - I joined Edge when I was in grade 7. My first tryout for Edge was the first time I ever played field lacrosse and as soon as I was done the tryout I knew I loved field so much and couldn’t wait to play more. My experience with Edge has been amazing, it has helped me develop, make new friends and given me great exposure.

Any future advice for Edge members?

CH - Some advice I would give to Edge members (and I know many others have said the same) would always be to stay on top of your grades because they always open so many doors. Also, to be patient with the process (especially as a goalie,) make sure you’re finding the school that fits you best socially, academically and also lacrosse wise.

Favorite memory with Edge?

CH - One of the best memories I have is the NSCLA championship in 2013, it was some of the best competition I have ever faced and even though we didn’t win the tournament I will always remember that weekend.  Finally the memories and friends I have made throughout the years are just unforgettable and they are friendships that will last a lifetime.

Who did you look up to growing up? Anyone you would compare yourself to now?

CH - My favorite lacrosse players I always enjoyed hearing about and watching play was Bobby Watson the goalie from the Toronto Rock and Brodie Merrill. As far as my game.. I try to model my style like Jason Weber at UDM, I think he is an amazing goalie and I play a similar style.

Any shoutouts, special thanks

CH - I would like to thank Stu, Alan and everyone from Edge that have helped me along the way, Edge has helped me let my dream become a reality and I can’t thank you guys enough. Also, to all my coaches  Jason Donville, Adam Gardner, Joel Johnson from Edge and Mike Frith from London. All my teammates, you guys have helped me develop and helped me to become the player I am today. Finally I would like to thank my parents, you have been my number one supporters the whole way I could have not have reached my dreams without your support and the time you have spent to get me here.
